FRAGILE

FRAGILE

You’re sitting silent in the grass
And stare into the woods
So slowly years have passed
My little friend, who could
Imagine you’re so good..

Around your small, delicate face
Your curly, soft brown hair
You carry not a single trace
No single scar is there
Just slow tears, everywhere

I sit beside you, very still
And take your hand in mine
Don’t worry little friend, I will
Not leave you behind
You smile and say: I’m fine

You’re fine, your courage sets me free
I smile at you and say
We’ll gain our freedom, you and me
I’ll figure out a way
Wait for the perfect day

I never saw the beauty of this land
Before, this forest vast
And deep, how birds eat from your hand
Thinking how troubled past
Turns into present, fast.

How fragile, you, your trust in me
So firm and yet so small
You stand and gesture: “Did you see
The trees, the waterfall
I so love this all

But I will go where your path is
Yes I will follow you
For I will die, and I will miss
You, yes I do
So I will follow you”.

You never realised how close
You were to death that day
How good it was that then I chose
For us to run away
To leave our lives so grey

I love you and I wish you well
My little brown-haired man
You made it, made it, you can tell
The tale of how we ran
And how your life began.
