COURAGE

COURAGE

Courageous means: stand up!

Fight, do not run!

Have the heart of a lion,

Or some other very brave animal

That fights to protect

Themselves or their young.

Speak out loud,

Against injustice,

Or to start a movement

To make the world a better place.


I am none of the above

I never speak up

I think I may have the heart

Of a little lamb

Not a lion’s in any case

Most certainly not a lion’s

If I would have fought

Anywhere

Anytime

If I had stood up?

Who knows?


I don’t think I have much courage.

It is still dark here but slowly

Morning light is seeping in,

Hospital awakens,

My monitor softly beeps,

Nurses whisper in the corridor.

The only courage I possess

Is the courage to stay alive

But to be honest:

That IS an accomplishment!
