MEMORIES

"Until you have endured the violation of abuse, whether by a single act or a chronic condition of suffering, you cannot know the meaning of self-loss. It isn’t only the obliteration of all of your belief systems; it is also the annihilation of your human worth and the unrecoverable larceny of your self. Painful beyond description in myriad ways, debilitating, and tragic, abuse – including bullying – leaves everlasting, invisible scars"

MEMORIES

There is a memory half erased, a laugh, soft smile,
a loud torrent of giggles and cries of contentment
The vague knowledge of arms lifting and twirling
this lithe body round and round in delight.

Those are the memories deeply locked away
In the place no one can reach but the one I used
to call me. The one that doesn't exist anymore
Every time I lose myself a little more and more

Those memories are but a dream, a remnant
of a fossil time long gone where worth was a word
with meaning and where scars still didn't exist
A time before thrashing, before I lost myself

I would like the memory back as a current reality
Or not having it at all, the pain of remembering
is crushing. I need to glue myself back together
and build new memories without longing for old.
