FOREVER
That day,
Where life changed from motion to still
The steady balance of footsoles
suddenly disappeared
Forever
That day
Where backbone became a word without meaning
And legs things instead of extremities,
without feeling
Forever
That day
Where peoples faces were quiet and concerned
Their faces contorted and careful
Weighing words, saying:
Forever
That day
Where I realized that legs would be replaced
by speeding wheels and push rims
Perhaps tears of frustration
Forever
But first
and foremost: a future, unexpected
A new chance to live and explore
People, make eye contact
And not looking back
Never go back
Forever
