EARLY MORNING COLD

EARLY MORNING COLD

Collaboration between Space Cadet (Wesley C. Cutlip and Darren White

Early morning
shivers
up my legs
     but who cares
     I can't feel them anyway

a soft gentle voice
lays a blanket across my
square shoulder

chessboard without
     rogue
     king
     and all the pawns
as my carriage arrives puffing
with the brown-haired queen
I know so well

while she opens the door
she beckons for me to get in
and folds away my chair

Sushi wafts from the take-out box on my lap:
     ginger,
     soy sauce,
wasabi warm like the running engine
stuck in the overflown parking lot spot:
She and I eat the whole damn salmon roll lot.
