A PLACE TO CALL HOME
Jimmy Ruffin: "What Becomes of the Broken Hearted"
"Every day heart aches grow a little stronger
I can't stand this pain much longer
I walk in shadows searching for light
Cold and alone no comfort in sight
Hopin' and prayin' for someone to care
Always movin' and going nowhere"
For as long as I can remember I had no home
No place to call home
No place to feel at home
My possessions fitted in one large suitcase
Clothes, pencils, notepad
Medication, photo, books
Homeless you could say
But for the fact that there was
a roof over my head
But no love, no arms around
my shoulders
Walking in shadows indeed
No one cared.
Strange how you get used
to belong nowhere
But how your heart aches
and longs for that one place to call home
If I behave, if I really do behave
Perhaps I found it now
It has not sunk in yet
Will it ever?
Will I ever allow myself to believe
That this might be home?
That I am finally home?
