WATER

WATER

I’m wondering about this sculpture
How does the glass not topple over
How is the stream of water
Able to carry the carafe?
I can sit here for ages watching it and never understand

The same way I am wondering about you
How come you stay upright and sunny
While everything about you tells me
You should topple over
And break into smithereens
Or cry in an unseen corner?

It is a mystery, I do so love your laugh
Bubbling up from deep inside
And bursting in me like the ocean
Unstoppable
You smile and say I am your man
And you tease me.

But how? I am whole, my love
Yet I feel like a carafe, ready to break
Will you then catch me?
With your smile and understanding?
You are the smallest boy I’ve ever seen
But strong as a bear
Or a glass of water carrying the world
And me
