So often we use ears only
Or eyes
Or even, without thinking,
A combination of both
But what if
What if
One fails?
For whatever reason one fails?
Doesn’t matter what reason,
One fails.


If eyes can’t see, often ears can hear
If ears can’t hear, often eyes can see
Most times mouth works
But what if it doesn’t
For whatever reason
If it fails?
Out of fear
Or impossibility?
Or impossibility out of fear?


Reach out, watch that person
Look at those eyes
Look at hands or movements
Learn to interpret and be patient
Give yourself by being quiet
And being there


Promise nothing find no excuses
Let those eyes tell a story
Promise to wait, to wait
Don’t say “do not be afraid”
Don’t say “there is no one here to hurt you”
Just be there and listen
With all of your senses
And be patient,
be infinitely patient.
