I built a story in my head
It had everything it needed
A home
Fairies
A wood so dark
With Unicorns and Wizards
With giants, dwarfs and witches
With castles high up in the sky
And beanstalks


I built a story in my head
With skies so bright
Stars so light
And suns warm and encompassing
And moons warm and comforting
With soft winds whispering in my ears
And gnomes in little houses
And trees with owls
And food and drinks
In small golden goblets
And little wings on my back
To fly with


I built a story in my head
I can’t get it on paper
And so instead I read a book
Behind my bed, in my own nook
With cushions and some cookies
And a mug of chocolate milk
My doll, my bear are listening


Thank you for writing what I can’t
For giving me the home I never had
For giving hope and love
And stories to get lost in
And forgetfulness of surroundings
For giving the gift of fantasy
And chasing pain from reality.
For seeing myself
Again, again
With different eyes
That dare to dream
